AWS Lambda supports many of the languages and runtimes that we know and love, providing us with a platform to run our code with minimal operational overhead. But what happens when it doesn't?

This is where custom runtimes can become invaluable, allowing us to extend the capabilities of Lambda beyond the prescribed limits. All the good languages have already been taken, so we're going to explore the most ridiculous runtimes we can create using ancient and esoteric languages. As a consequence, we will gain a greater understanding of how the systems behind AWS Lambda work.
